2013 Lloydminster Walk a Mile Event

In September 2013, the Lloydminster Sexual Assault and Information Centre (LSAIC) with support from businesses, organizations, and the community, hosted the first Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Lloydminster. This event is an International March to support those affected by sexual violence and to bring awareness to this issue. Men and women were encouraged to literally “walk a mile in her shoes” by putting on women’s bright red high heels and walking a mile.

The community showed tremendous support to the cause by rallying together to make the event a success. LSAIC not only exceeded the goal of 100 participants, but doubled their fundraising goal as well. The triumph of this event provided LSAIC with necessary funding for program delivery.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Lloydminster would not have been possible without the generosity received from all our sponsors. Words cannot express LSAIC’s gratitude for everyone’s support, especially to the gold level sponsors of the event: The Root Community Emporium who provided the venue for the occasion, Happily Ever After Event Planning and Décor who allowed for the vision of the event to turn into reality, and Highway Creative who developed the event’s website, while also providing a great learning opportunity for LSAIC staff.

The community support shown towards this event was inspiring. Lloydminster businesses and organizations took a stand against sexual violence by registering teams, collecting donations, and contributing goods and services. The feedback from the community demonstrated that Lloydminster is a city that values and recognizes the need for education and awareness about this human issue. With the strength of Lloydminster’s support during the event, it is not surprising that the event it is still being talked about a year after!

The staff at LSAIC have embraced taking on this event and are happy to announce the return of Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Lloydminster on September 19th 2015.
